Shawn N. Brown, DVM
Dr. Shawn Brown graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. Upon graduation, Dr. Brown joined the family veterinary practice in Newport, Oregon for 1 year. In 2003, Dr. Brown was hired as an associate veterinarian at Shoreland Animal Hospital, and in October 2007 he acquired the practice. Since his taking command at SAH he has more than doubled the practice client numbers, increased employment and added after hours emergency phone lines. Dr. Brown is a AO certified orthopod for small animals. Dr. Brown is past vice-president, and past president of the Toledo Veterinary Medical Association. He currently sits on the Ohio Veterinary Medical Board of Directors. In his spare time he loves to travel, play golf and fish. He lives with his wife, Dr. Kim Riker, 4 dogs, 4 cats and 3 fish.
Kim Riker, DVM
Dr. Kim Riker graduated from Ross University in 2001 and is a partner at Shoreland Animal Hospital. She is past president of the Toledo Veterinary Medical Association, and past Treasurer and VP of Finance of the Junior League of Toledo. She currently sits on the the OVMA finance council and was appointed by Governor Kasich to the Ohio Veterinary Licensing Board in June of 2015. She has a special interest in small animal Oncolgy and loves to be a mom to her 2 year old son, ride her Warmblood, and read in her spare time.
Sara Starkey, DVM
Dr. Sara Starkey graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. Upon graduation, she joined Shoreland Animal Hospital as an associate veterinarian. Dr. Starkey originally joined the SAH team in 2004 when she was hired as a veterinarian assistant. She has an interest in small animal internal medicine, especially endocrine disorders. In her spare time she enjoys travelling, scuba diving, spending time with her friends and family as well as her 4 cats, 2 dogs and 1 bird.
Leslie Karkheck, DVM
Dr. Leslie Karkheck graduated from Michigan State University's College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008. Upon graduation, she completed an internship at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, KY. She practiced equine and small animal medicine in Lexington for a few years and then moved to New York where she practiced primarily small animal medicine for 3 years before moving back to her hometown of Ida, MI. She is excited to be home and to join Shoreland Animal Hospital. She has special interests in anesthesia, surgery and diagnostic imaging. Outside of work, Dr. Karkheck spends most of her time with her husband and 1-year-old daughter. She also enjoys distance running and horseback riding. Her family pets include 2 dogs and 1 cat.
